BYC United understands that there is no substitute for the added value created by innovation. We have an active team that works on new materials and potential improvements on the existing products and manufacturing equipment. Product development is not a secondary activity at BYC. Instead it is our core strategy. Majority of our ever extending catalogue of products are produced with our own proprietary technology.
At BYC, we also understand that advanced functional materials entail advanced characterization tools and unorthodox quality control methodologies. Our Sol-Gel based antireflective coating technology clearly illustrates this point.
We prepare our own Sol with our own formulation. The immersion tank geometry and the robotic automation in the production line was also custom built to BYC`s own design specifications. The aging process is quantitatively monitored with a particle sizer that uses dynamic light scattering. Similarly pH, immersion tank temperatures, ambient temperature and humidity is regularly monitored and controlled. The quality control team regularly takes optical measurements (transmission, reflection, gloss etc.) with dedicated instruments and those measurements are stored and occasionally shared with our customers. This data is later used as a starting ground to improve coating technology. In short, quality control and R&D share a large common ground in terms of instrumentation.
We routinely take our coated samples and analyse them using various surface characterization techniques such as polarized optical microscopy, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), stylus profilometry, AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy), goniometric contact angle testing and microhardness measurements. For characterization needs that are beyond the reach of in house capabilities, BYC United actively collaborates with universities in its region. Our team keeps themselves updated about the latest test and characterization equipment.
A substantial chunk of our research endeavours are driven by customer inquiries and demands. We actively work with our customers to meet their requirements. Customer feedback, to a large extent, moulds our research efforts. Therefore our core R&D strategy is to bring innovations to the table that can be quickly commercialized with fast returns.
Finally BYC United occasionally tackles inquiries on small batch, non-standard orders. Often such inquiries entail special apparatus and/or equipment for handling. As we are well versed in machinery design and refurbishment we can swiftly adopt our equipment or build a new one.
